History

The city of Hamilton is an ethnically diverse community of over 500,000 people. It is made up of 6 historic communities, which continue to enjoy a 'local' feeling. Hamilton has historically been a centre for immigration, benefiting from successive waves of newcomers to Canada. These hard-working people have given Hamilton the title 'The Industrious City'.

Quality of Life

Hamilton is ideally situated in central Ontario, between the Greater Toronto Area and the Niagara Region, which are both only an hour or less away. We don't suffer from the traffic chaos that grips much of our neighbouring communities. Commuting to downtown Hamilton is easy, using our efficient network of one way streets.

Hamilton is a centre of higher education, including McMaster University, Mohawk College and Redeemer University College, and enjoys a rich tradition of private education, lead by Hillfield-Strathallan College. We have all of the cultural institutions of a larger city, including Theatre Aquarius, Opera Ontario, the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, Hamilton Bulldogs Hockey Club and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats Football Club, yet our housing prices are a fraction of those in Toronto. Indeed, Hamilton is a great value.

Location, location, location

MacGillivray has been proudly located in Hamilton's downtown core for over 70 years. Our new, state-of-the-art building at Main and Hughson is only two blocks from the Go Station. Like Hamilton, MacGilllivray's business roots are in the Steel industry, and now reflect the region's growing influence in science and healthcare. In fact, 80 percent of our work is in our local community.

Recreation

Bayfront Park and Pier 4, acres of former industrial landfill restored to a green area, are alive with walkers, runners, inline skaters, and kids playing on the landlocked tugboat, the twisting, turning tubes and slides, or running through the water toys. The 1,500 kilometres of trails and over 81 waterfalls invite hikers, bikers and window-shopping naturalists to explore the verdure of Hamilton's forests and botanical exhibits. The more sedate can tread manicured fairways of more than two dozen golf courses, or tour the charming settings of six communities for the many curiosities, antiques and heritage sites.
